Hurricane Categories, Staff Levels, and Communication
Communications Base
The Central Offices will serve as the primary Communications Base for Category 1–3 hurricanes, whether the forecast indicates a direct or indirect impact, provided the facility remains safe and operational.
For Category 4 or 5 hurricanes, or when conditions indicate the Central Offices may be significantly impacted, the Communications Base will relocate to the North Crestview Campus. If forecast models indicate North Crestview may also be affected, the Communications Base may be relocated farther inland, such as the Pensacola or Panama City area, based on the projected storm track.
- Because hotel availability becomes extremely limited before major storms, accommodations for the Communications Base should be secured as early as possible once relocation appears likely.
