Before Hurricane Season (March & April)


Each campus should complete the following annually:


Campus Readiness

  • Assign a Hurricane Response Team with primary and backup contacts
  • Identify who returns immediately after a storm and who is second priority
  • Know the locations of all electrical, gas, and water shutoffs
  • Identify the safest shelter location on campus (emergency use only)
  • Inspect trees for potential hazards
  • Verify sewer backflow protection where applicable

 

Emergency Supplies

  • Verify first aid kits are stocked and accessible
  • Identify locations of:
  • Sandbags
  • Tarps
  • Plywood
  • Lumber
  • Other emergency supplies

 

Documentation

  • Photograph buildings, equipment, and major assets for insurance purposes
  • Keep inventories up to date

 

Member Care

  • Prepare a communication plan for members and attendees
  • Ensure email and text templates are ready
  • Recruit volunteers to contact families who do not respond after the storm
  • Keep website and social media communication plans ready
