OSHA & Workplace Safety at Crosspoint Church

Responsibility and Expectations

The safety of our staff, volunteers, and guests is a priority at Crosspoint Church. While churches are not always required to comply with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations in the same way as commercial businesses, many of our operations still fall within OSHA considerations.

At Crosspoint, the Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing OSHA awareness, compliance considerations, and workplace safety standards across all campuses.

When OSHA Applies to Crosspoint

OSHA regulations may apply when church operations extend beyond purely religious activities. This can include:

  • Schools, daycare, or childcare programs
  • Administrative offices and staff workspaces
  • Food service or kitchen operations
  • Bookstores or retail environments
  • Facility maintenance and contracted work

Any situation involving employees, equipment, or workplace risk should be approached with OSHA-informed safety practices.

Core Safety Expectations

Even in areas where OSHA is not strictly required, Crosspoint operates with a proactive safety mindset. This includes:

1. Fire Safety

  • Keep all exits clearly marked and unobstructed
  • Maintain accessible, working fire extinguishers
  • Ensure staff understand emergency evacuation procedures
  • Avoid fire hazards (open flames, overloaded outlets, flammable materials)

2. Facility Safety

  • Routinely inspect buildings and grounds
  • Address hazards such as:
  • Loose railings
  • Damaged flooring
  • Exposed wiring
  • Unsafe ladders or equipment

3. Kitchen & Food Areas

  • Maintain clean cooking surfaces
  • Ensure fire suppression systems are operational
  • Follow safe food handling practices
  • Train staff and volunteers on emergency procedures

Training & Awareness

Safety is a shared responsibility. Crosspoint expects:

  • Staff to remain aware of their environment
  • Immediate reporting of safety concerns or hazards
  • Participation in any required safety or emergency training

Role of the Director of Operations

The Director of Operations provides oversight by:

  • Monitoring safety practices across campuses
  • Evaluating risks related to facilities and operations
  • Coordinating response to safety concerns or incidents
  • Ensuring alignment with OSHA standards where applicable
  • Supporting campus leadership in maintaining safe environments

Reporting Safety Concerns

If you observe a safety issue or potential hazard:

  • Report it immediately to your supervisor or campus leadership
  • Escalate urgent concerns directly to the Director of Operations

Timely reporting helps prevent incidents and protects everyone on our campuses.

Bottom Line

Whether required by law or not, Crosspoint is committed to maintaining environments that are safe, prepared, and well-managed. Strong safety practices reflect our stewardship, care for people, and operational excellence.
