Cleaning Equipment Stewardship
Cleaning equipment is essential to maintaining safe, functional, and welcoming facilities across all Crosspoint campuses. Properly maintained equipment allows teams to clean effectively, protect building materials, and extend the life of flooring, finishes, and facility infrastructure.
Dirty or poorly maintained equipment can damage surfaces, spread contaminants, and reduce the life expectancy of building materials. For this reason, all cleaning equipment—whether owned by Crosspoint or used by vendors on Crosspoint property—must be properly maintained, cleaned, and stored.
1. Equipment Covered Under this Standard
This guidance applies to all cleaning and maintenance equipment used on Crosspoint properties, including but not limited to:
- Vacuums
- Floor scrubbers and buffers
- Carpet extractors
- Pressure washers
- Mop systems and buckets
- Cleaning carts
- Portable cleaning machines
- Any vendor-owned cleaning equipment used on Crosspoint property
2. Stewardship Principles
Cleaning equipment must be treated as operational infrastructure, not disposable tools. The following principles guide its use:
1. Clean Equipment Cleans Buildings
Equipment used to clean facilities must itself be kept clean. Dirty pads, filters, tanks, and attachments reduce cleaning effectiveness and may spread soil or contaminants across surfaces.
2. Equipment Must Be Maintained and Operational
Equipment must be maintained in working order. Malfunctioning equipment can damage flooring, carpets, and surfaces and may create safety hazards.
3. Protect Building Materials
Proper equipment selection and maintenance protect building materials such as: Carpet and flooring, tile and grout, wood surfaces, wall finishes, and upholstery and furniture
Improper equipment or poorly maintained machines accelerate wear and can lead to unnecessary facility repairs.
4. Extend the Life of Facilities
Well-maintained cleaning equipment directly contributes to extending the useful life of Crosspoint facilities and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
3. Equipment Covered Under this Standard
Equipment Cleaning
All cleaning equipment must be cleaned after each use when applicable.
- Recovery tanks, brushes, pads, and filters must be emptied and rinsed.
- Mop heads and cloth materials should be washed and replaced when worn.
- Equipment should never be stored with standing water or chemical residue.
Routine Inspection
Staff responsible for equipment should regularly inspect for:
- Worn brushes or pads
- Clogged filters or hoses
- Damaged cords or batteries
- Leaks or mechanical issues
Equipment that is not functioning properly should be removed from service until repaired.
Proper Storage Cleaning equipment must be stored in designated custodial or maintenance areas that are:
- Clean / Dry / Organized / Accessible only to authorized personnel
Equipment should never be left in hallways, classrooms, or public areas when not in use.
Vendor Equipment Any cleaning vendor operating on Crosspoint property must:
- Use clean and properly maintained equipment
- Follow Crosspoint facility standards
Operations reserves the right to require replacement of equipment that may damage facilities or fail to meet these standards.
4. Accountability
Facility teams, custodial staff, and vendors are responsible for ensuring equipment used on Crosspoint properties meets these standards. Proper stewardship of cleaning equipment protects the safety, cleanliness, and longevity of Crosspoint facilities.
